60/20: A Milestone Year for Amici Children's Camp Charity

It was the summer of 1966. The radio played The Beatles and The Beach Boys on repeat. Mod fashion, mini skirts, kaftans, and Nehru jackets were everywhere, and kids punctuated every sentence with “groovy” and “far out.” At camp in Ontario, children cooled off in the lake, stretched their comfort zones on canoe trips, sang songs around the fire, and looked up to the mentors who guided them.
Fast forward to the summer of 2026. A lot has changed in 60 years. Kids now share their lives on social media, a concept nearly impossible to explain to the children of ’66. Millennial fashion is making a comeback, and Sabrina Carpenter and Kendrick Lamar top the Billboard charts.
Yet despite all of this change, one thing remains beautifully the same.
Each summer, children at camp still jump into refreshing waters, learn new skills, sleep under the stars, and form friendships that last a lifetime. They discover confidence they didn’t know they had, feel a sense of belonging, and find mentors who help shape who they will become.
Camp is just as important today as it was 60 years ago.
At Amici Children’s Camp Charity, we are thrilled to be celebrating a major milestone in 2026: 60 years of providing the gift of camp to children from low-income families. Over six decades, thousands of children have experienced the magic of camp because you believed they deserved the same opportunities as any other child.
A lot has changed, but the need for camp remains the same.
To honour this remarkable anniversary, we are proud to introduce our special 60th Anniversary logo. Designed to celebrate Amici’s legacy and impact, the logo represents decades of laughter on docks, courage on canoe trips, friendships forged by campfires, and the enduring belief that camp can change a child’s life.
And this year brings another milestone we are proud to celebrate.
May 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of Canoe Heads for Kids.
For two decades, this signature event has brought together camp enthusiasts, alumni, donors, camp partners and Amici families, who share a common goal: ensuring more children can experience the joy, growth, and belonging that camp provides. Canoe Heads for Kids is not just a fundraiser, it’s a celebration of community, commitment, and the ripple effect of generosity.
As we reflect on these milestones, we are reminded that anniversaries are not about numbers alone. They are about people. They are about the campers whose summers, and lives, were changed. The camp partners who opened their doors. The donors who gave year-after-year. The volunteers who showed up with passion and heart. The teenage boys in 1966 at Kilcoo Camp, who saved up enough money to pay for the first Amici camper to attend camp. And the Amici community that has stood beside us for six decades.
We are stepping into our 60th year with immense pride and joy, celebrating all that has been accomplished while looking ahead to the next 60 years of changing the lives of children through the power of camp.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Because of you, the magic of camp continues, generation-after-generation.
