Stu's Trek to Camp
On May 3, Kilcoo staff member Stu McGorman is embarking on an epic journey from Kelowna, BC all the way to Kilcoo. The trip will be done entirely by his own power. Stu's journey will be more than 4,000km, starting with a bike ride from Kelowna to Collingwood followed by canoeing from Collingwood to Kilcoo, all in support of Amici campers!
The canoe that Stu will be using on his journey from Collingwood to Kilcoo is one that he made himself in Summer 2020. When camp was cancelled that summer, Stu McGorman realized he had the unique opportunity to take on a project. He embarked on the impressive journey of building his own cedar strip canoe. It was the perfect way to keep the magic of camp alive in a camp-less summer. Taking over his parent's garage, Stu spent the summer drafting plans, collecting tools and materials and then was able to begin building the canoe. Stu was able to bring his canoe with him to Kilcoo in Summer 2021 where he made himself a paddle and spent as much time as possible paddling his canoe on Gull Lake!
